Toronto Shamrocks
The Toronto Shamrocks were a very early hockey team, having debuted in the National Hockey Association (NHA) as the Toronto Tecumsehs in 1912 and later the Ontarios. They were renamed the Shamrocks after playing their first game of the 1915 season. The name change was allegedly made due to the team's significant number of players of Irish descent. The team's shirt logo would, of course, be a Shamrock. For the 1915 season, they had a rough year, finishing 7-13. At this era in history, teams were always in upheaval, and the Shamrocks were no exception. After a year of inactivity, the Shamrocks franchise was given to the Canadian military, who played a 228th Battalion squad in 1916-17. That squad would barely survive a year, effectively terminating the Shamrocks' franchise history.
