Ottawa Nationals
The Ottawa Nationals were a WHA expansion team who played for one season only, 1972-73. They played in the Ottawa Civic Center and had a good year, winning 35 games and making the playoffs, where they would face the New England Whalers. However, by the time the playoffs arrived, the Nationals were in financial difficulties as a consequence of low attendance and owing money to the City of Ottawa. Instead of paying Ottawa, they relocated all of their home playoff games to Toronto. They were sold and transferred to Toronto as the Toros after losing the series to the eventual champion Whalers.
