Amarillo Rattlers
1996 saw the beginning of play for the Amarillo Rattlers in the Western Professional Hockey League (WPHL), a low-level minor league comprised mostly of clubs from Texas, New Mexico, and the Gulf Coast. The Rattlers' games were played at the Amarillo Civic Center. The Rattlers never posed much of a threat to the other teams in the WPHL. In their six years of existence, they had only one season with a record above .500, and they were never able to advance to the postseason. The Rattlers competed in the CHL for one season before disbanding after the WPHL merged with the Central Hockey League in 2001.
