El Paso Buzzards

From 1996 until 2003, the El Paso Buzzards competed in the WPHL and CHL at the El Paso County Coliseum. When the squad joined the WPHL in 1996, they were instantly successful, going 33-23 in their first campaign and 43-20 in the following. Those first two years, 1996-97 and 1997-98, they won back-to-back league championships. The club was having excellent success on the ice and was also performing in front of crowds of 4,000 or more at the Coliseum. The Coliseum itself is a historic facility, having been opened in 1942.

The Buzzards' success would wane after those first two years, though. They would stay in the WPHL for three more years, falling in the first round of the playoffs each time. The league joined with the CHL in 2001, and the Buzzards played two dismal seasons before collapsing.
