Fort Worth Wings
The Fort Worth Wings had a journey filled with relocation. They began as the Capitols in Indianapolis in 1963 before adopting the name 'Wings' as they moved to Cincinnati and later Memphis. Their travels continued in 1967 when they headed south and settled in Fort Worth, Texas, where they enjoyed a successful seven-year stint as part of the Central Hockey League (CHL).
During their time in Fort Worth, the Wings made the playoffs in six out of seven seasons, even reaching the Finals in 1968, where they unfortunately lost to the Tulsa Oilers. Notably, they also engaged in a fierce rivalry with the Dallas Blackhawks, with whom they had intense matchups. Given the proximity of the Blackhawks in Dallas and the relatively small number of teams in the league each season, the Wings and Hawks clashed frequently, forging a memorable rivalry.
In 1974, the Wings underwent a rebranding and became known as the Fort Worth Texans, a name they retained until the franchise ceased operations in 1982. Throughout their existence, the Wings/Texans welcomed numerous NHL players, including notable names such as Andre St. Laurent, Glenn 'Chico' Resch, and Pete Mahovlich.
