Topeka Scarecrows
Starting in 1998, the Topeka Scarecrows competed in the CHL at the Kansas ExpoCenter. In their inaugural season, 1998-99, they went 28-38 but still made the playoffs, falling in the first round to the Oklahoma City Blazers. Despite a far better result of 35-27, they would miss the playoffs in their second season. Their final season in the CHL was hampered by legal entanglements. The Scarecrows and Border City Bandits franchises were both disbanded by the league with 10 games remaining for breaking financial agreements with the league. The Scarecrows would file a restraining order and conclude the season with a first-round playoff exit to the San Antonio Iguanas.
The club would join the USHL the next season and play two seasons before being sold and relocated to St. Louis.
