Tucson Mavericks
The Tucson Mavericks participated in the CHL for only one season (1975-76), winning 14 of 76 contests. The team began as a minor league affiliate for the World Hockey Association's Phoenix Roadrunners, who joined the league in 1974-75. Despite being owed six figures by the Roadrunners, the Mavericks planned to return for a second season. Those plans were sidetracked, however, when another company approached the City of Tucson about bringing a team there, and the city responded by tripling the Mavericks' rent, which they couldn't pay.
