New York Raiders
The New York Raiders were one of the WHA's first clubs, and they chose the freshly completed Nassau Coliseum as their Long Island home. Before they could do that however, the NHL swiftly expanded to Long Island, forcing the Raiders to abandon their initial ambitions. Scrambling, the Raiders relocated to New York City and took up home in the same building as the NHL's other New York franchise, Madison Square Garden. Camille Henry, a well-known New York hockey player, was hired as the Raiders' coach. The team was a financial catastrophe, and they were taken over by the league during their inaugural season. They would be sold and relaunched as the New York Golden Blades after a year.
