Denver Spurs History

The Denver Spurs were a WHL franchise that began play in the 1968-69 season. They played in the WHL for six seasons, winning the championship in 1972. The WHL folded in 1974, and the Spurs moved their cowboy skates to a new league for the 1974-75 season. The Spurs moved again the next year, and entered the WHA, taking over most of the players from the Chicago Cougars, who had disbanded a few weeks before. However, the Spurs fell into financial difficulties, and when the City of Denver placed a lien on the franchise on December 31, 1975, the club fled to Ottawa and concluded the season as the Ottawa Civics.
