Denver Spurs

The Denver Spurs were a WHL franchise that began play in the 1968-69 season. They played in the WHL for six seasons, winning the championship in 1972. The WHL folded in 1974, and the Spurs moved their cowboy skates to the CHL for the 1974-75 season. The Spurs moved again the next year, and entered the WHA, taking over most of the players from the Chicago Cougars, who had disbanded a few weeks before. However, the Spurs fell into financial difficulties, and when the City of Denver placed a lien on the franchise on December 31, 1975, the club fled to Ottawa and concluded the season as the Ottawa Civics.
