Portland Eagles
The Portland Eagles began play in the WHL (formerly the PCHL) in 1944, at Portland Arena (1914-1956). The Eagles were successful, making the playoffs in most seasons, including a trip to the Finals in 1947, where they were defeated by the Los Angeles Monarchs. In 1949, the team opted to change their name to the Penguins and finished 32-30-9, missing the playoffs. In 1950, they reverted to the Eagles moniker and had another .500 season before falling in the first round of the playoffs. Following the 1950-51 season, the club folded due to financial issues and a deteriorating environment at Portland Ice Arena. The arena, located at Northwest 21st and Marshall streets, closed in 1953 when the fire marshal demanded $80,000 in electrical renovations.
As far as we can determine, the Eagles never had a genuine logo, so we made our own of a menacing hockey stick holding eagle!
