Philadelphia Quakers
Long before Broad Street's Bullies, the Philadelphia Quakers were the city's first top-tier ice hockey team. They began as the Pirates, playing at Duquesne Gardens in Pittsburgh. However, when the Great Depression occurred, the squad struggled and, to make matters worse, needed a brand-new stadium. So, they moved to Philadelphia, changing their name to the Quakers to reflect the city's heritage. But things got worse in their new city. They finished 4-36-4 in their single season in Eastern Pennsylvania and disbanded at the end of the season. Their winning percentage of.131 would remain a record for the next 45 years. One positive spot: Hall of Famer Syd Howe played for the Quakers.
