Fredericton Express

The Aiken Centre, located on the University of New Brunswick campus, was the home arena for the Fredericton Express, an expansion team that joined the AHL in 1981. In their inaugural season, they were partnered with the Quebec Nordiques -- hence the Express' colours -- and in Year 2 the Vancouver Canucks came on board as another affiliate. The club never took home a championship, but they did place first in their division during the 1982-83 and 83-84 seasons. In 1988, they advanced to the Calder Cup Final but lost to the Hershey Bears. That would be their last game in Fredericton. After that, the Canucks ended their affiliation with the team, and the squad was relocated to Halifax to become the Halifax Citadels.
