Fort Worth Fire
The Fort Worth Fire joined their Metroplex rivals, the Dallas Freeze, in the CHL in 1992, forming a fire and ice rivalry. While the Freeze only lasted a few seasons, the Fire lasted until 1999, overcoming the NHL's expansion to Dallas for a few years. The Fire were also the first hockey team to play in the Fort Worth Convention Center Arena since the Texans left the original CHL in 1982.
The Fire struggled for the most of their existence, finishing with a record above .500 in only two of seven years. However, they did win the CHL championship in 1996-97. They won 45 games (13 more than in any previous season) and defeated the Memphis Riverkings in seven games to win the postseason title.
