New York Rovers
The New York Rovers are a vintage New York hockey team that has mostly gone unnoticed. Between 1935 and 1952, they were a farm team for those boys on Broadway, playing in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL). They were usually part of a double or triple header at the Garden. Local amateur teams playing in the afternoon before the Rovers on the ice, and the pros rounding it up at night, giving spectators a full day of hockey excitement. The original Rovers went out of business in 1952.
The Rovers were resurrected for the 1959-60 EHL season at the Long Island Arena in Commack until renaming themselves the Ducks in 1961. The Ducks would be successful in Commack until 1973. The Rover brand was relaunched separately one last time for the 1964-1965 season at the Garden, although it only lasted one year. Unfortunately, the team with a long Manhattan hockey heritage has remained dormant since then.
