Niagara Falls Flyers
The Niagara Falls Flyers were a powerhouse major junior team during the 1960s and 70s, producing dozens of players who went on to successful NHL careers. There were two iterations of the team at the major junior level: the first from 1960 to 1972, and the second from 1976 to 1982. Both teams played at the Niagara Falls Memorial Arena in Ontario.
The Flyers competed for the Memorial Cup three times over their 18 combined seasons, winning it twice, in 1965 and 1968. The 1965 team was particularly loaded with future NHL talent, featuring players like Derek Sanderson, Jean Pronovost, Bernie Parent, and Bill Goldsworthy. In total, more than 75 Flyers alumni would eventually suit up in the NHL. Among them, Bernie Parent and Mike Gartner both went on to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Unfortunately, the Flyers could not maintain a long-term presence in Niagara Falls. The first iteration of the team relocated to Sudbury in 1972, and the second iteration moved to North Bay a decade later, in 1982. To date, the Flyers remain the last major junior team to call Niagara Falls home.
