The Los Angeles Sharks, an early WHA team, were originally nicknamed the Aces but were renamed before they even hit the ice. In their debut season, 1972-73, the club finished third in the Western Division of the WHA, winning 37 games. During their second season, however, the club fared significantly worse on the ice and in the stands. They only had 25 victories, and attendance decreased significantly while the cross-town NHL team had a great season. The club was sold at the end of their second season and relocated to Detroit to become the Michigan Stags.
