Moncton Alpines

The Moncton Alpines moved into the Moncton Coliseum in 1982 as an expansion franchise after the New Brunswick Hawks left for St. Catharines, Ontario. The Alpines were associated with the Oilers, and featured Doug Messier as coach. Yep, that's Mark Messier's dad. Doug had a long WHL career, playing many years for the Portland Buckaroos and Edmonton Flyers. Mark's older brother, Paul, also played for the Alpines.

The Alpines weren't particularly successful on the ice, despite being associated with one of hockey's dynasties. None of the big names you know really spent time there, except for Grant Fuhr playing 10 games for the Alpines.

After two under .500 seasons, the team picked up and moved to Nova Scotia as the Nova Scotia Oilers.
