Nova Scotia Voyageurs

The Nova Scotia Voyageurs were an AHL juggernaut in the 1970s. The team began as the Montreal Voyageurs and relocated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, for the 1971-72 season to play in the Halifax Forum. The club was instantly successful, thanks in part to the outstanding prospect pool of the Montreal Canadiens at the time, winning the Calder Cup in 1972, becoming the first Canadian team to accomplish this. As the Canadiens ripped up the NHL, the Voyageurs ripped up the AHL, capturing two more Calder Cups in 1976 and 1977.

For the 1978-79 season, the Voyageurs relocated to the Halifax Metro Centre, where their attendance increased. However, in the mid-1980s, the Canadiens decided that they needed a farm club closer to home and, in a deal with Edmonton and Winnipeg, took over a franchise in Sherbrooke in return for financially bailing out Edmonton's team and handing Halifax to Edmonton.
