Fort Worth Texans
The Fort Worth Texans began as the Memphis Wings when they originated in Tennessee. Upon moving to Texas, they renamed themselves the Fort Worth Wings. When the club switched pro affiliates prior to the 1974-75 season, they changed their colors to blue and orange, as well as their logo (a hockey stick over Texas) to better reflect the Long Island-based pro affiliate.
The Dallas Black Hawks, who were only a short drive away, would become strong rivals of the Texans. The rivalry reached a nadir in 1978, when the Texans beat the Black Hawks in seven games in the CHL championships. Many Texans alumnus went on to have great careers on Long Island, including Bob Bourne, Richie Hansen, Lorne Henning, and Bob Lorimer. The Texans would collapse following the 1981-82 season.
