Providence Reds / Rhode Island Reds
The Providence/Rhode Island Reds are a genuinely historic hockey franchise. The Reds joined the CAHL in 1926 and stayed with the league at the Rhode Island Auditorium all the way until 1972. The Reds won the regular season championship nine times and the Calder Cup four times: in 1938, 1940, 1949, and 1956. They relocated to the Providence Civic Center in 1973 and remained there until 1977. Johnny Bower, Eddie Giacomin, Gump Worsley, and Camille Henry are among the team's big league alumni. In the early 1940s, famed coach Scotty Bowman played two games with the Reds.
