Lubbock Cotton Kings
The Lubbock Cotton Kings™ were a WPHL team that played in the Lubbock Coliseum from 1999 until 2007. They were extremely successful in their first two years, winning 42 of 70 games in 1999-00 and 40 of 71 games the following year. They'd make the playoffs both seasons, eventually reaching the WPHL Finals in 2001. After sweeping the first two playoff rounds, they were defeated in five games by Shreveport in the Finals.
Following that season, the WPHL merged with the CHL, and the Cotton Kings would never be as successful on the ice, despite drawing large audiences. In six CHL seasons, they only made the playoffs once and finished above .500 three times. After the 2006-07 season, the Cotton Kings were unable to reach an agreement with the City of Lubbock on their usage of the Coliseum, and the club folded. The CHL would cease operations in 2014.
