Richmond Robins

The Richmond Robins joined the AHL in 1971-72 as the Quebec Aces relocated to Richmond, Virginia. The squad quickly became successful in Richmond, with approximately 6,000 spectators attending each game at the Richmond Coliseum. On the ice, however, the squad was not quite as good, as they never finished above .500 during their five campaigns. They would, however, make the playoffs four times! During this era, eight of the AHL's 12 clubs would qualify for the playoffs each year.

Many future NHL players would play for the Robins, who were Philadelphia's top affiliation at the time. The Robins saw  Bill Barber, Reggie Lemelin, Terry Murray, and Dave Schultz play for them over the years.

By 1975, fan support was waning and the team was losing money. The team disbanded in the summer of 1976 after failing to meet a 1,000-season-ticket pledge.
