Wichita Wind
The Wichita Wind joined the CHL in 1980-81, with purple and orange colors similar to their pro affiliation in Alberta and sported an angry tornado as a crest. They played in the Kansas Coliseum for two seasons and were coached by John Muckler, who went on to manage the Sabres, Rangers, and Oilers. The Wind produced a number of well-known professional players, including Andy Moog, Gary Howatt, and Charlie Huddy.
The Wind reached the CHL championships in their debut season, losing in seven games against the Salt Lake City Golden Eagles. The next year, they would lose in the second round and miss the playoffs in their third year in Wichita. After that third season, they relocated to Billings, Montana, where they became the Montana Magic, another excellent CHL logo.
