Arkansas Glaciercats
The Arkansas Glaciercats were the state's first professional hockey club, debuting in the Western Professional Hockey League (WPHL) in 1998-99. That season they drew attendance of over 4,000 people per game at the Barton Coliseum in Little Rock. They'd go 37-27 in their inaugural season and make the playoffs. The Glaciercats had another successful season in 99-00, with 32 victories and a second-round playoff berth. Unfortunately, the club folded after that season. The debut of the ECHL's Arkansas Riverblades at the freshly-opened Alltel Arena was most likely a contributing factor.
