Toledo Buckeyes
Toledo has a rich hockey history, and the Buckeyes would be a minor blip if it weren't for having one of the odddest hockey logos you'll ever see. From 1947 until 1962, the Toledo Mercurys were a fixture in the IHL. However, they took a one season hiatus and renamed themselves the Toledo Buckeyes and entered the EHL. The Buckeye moniker was inspired by their new sponsor, the Buckeye Brewing Company, and they also received a new emblem depicting a waiter carrying beer. The emblem is wonderfully created for the era, but unusual to see on a hockey jersey (they did have this graphic directly on the front of their sweaters beneath the word 'Toledo'). After a year, the Buckeyes rejoined the IHL and changed their name back to the Mercurys. They would go on to win the IHL title each of the next two seasons.
