Miami Screaming Eagles
A founding WHA squad that never played a game was the Miami Screaming Eagles. They were meant to be situated in Florida and were partly owned by player Bernie Parent, the first NHL player to sign with the WHA. Owner Herb Martin had a concept to construct an arena within the four walls of a real-life office building, dubbed Executive Square Arena (strange but true). The WHA apparently thought this was such a good idea in 1972 that they intended to have the inaugural game there. That idea never materialized, and Miami had no other viable venue choices at the time. Because the Eagles were unable to find a new home in Florida, ownership was transferred to a group that relocated them to Philadelphia to become the Blazers.
