Longueuil Chevaliers

The Longueuil Chevaliers were a major junior hockey team that played out of the Colisée Jean Béliveau during the 1980s. The team was an expansion franchise for the 1982-83 season and was immediately successful, winning 37 of 70 games in each of their first two seasons. Both seasons, the team also made it to the playoff final. The are one of the most successful expansion franchises in Canadian juniors history. Given the success, it may come as no surprise that the team's original coach was Jacques Lemaire. They also had J.J. Daigneault and future NHL coach Michel Therrien on the playing roster.

In their third and fourth seasons, the team struggled and combined for only 39 wins in two seasons. Their fifth and final season however was a memorable one, as the team won 46 games and went all the way to the playoff final. On the way to the final, they had a memorable series with Laval Titan. Laval won the first three games of the series, before Longueuil won four straight to win the series and advance to the final! In the final, the Chevaliers defeated the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. Unfortunately, after the championship season the team would pack up and move to Victoriaville.
