Tallahassee Tiger Sharks
The Tallahassee Tiger Sharks played in the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center for seven years in the late 1990s. The Tiger Sharks relocated from Huntsville, AL in 1994.
The squad saw quick success on the ice, winning more than 36 games in each of their first three seasons and reached the playoffs all three times. They won a team-record 42 games in 1995-96 and progressed to the third round of the playoffs before falling to Charlotte. During these years, the club experienced strong fan support, with over 6,000 people attending each game.
Unfortunately, the club would not fare as well in subsequent seasons, missing the playoffs four times and winning more than 36 games only once in their final four seasons. Attendance dropped as well, and things became strange when the club was penalized $50,000 and 15 points in the standings for violating the league wage cap by making payments to NHL and AHL teams for players. All of this would occur during the team's final season in Tallahassee, 2000-01. The club moved to Georgia after that year.
