Marquette Iron Rangers

From 1964 through 1976, the Marquette Iron Rangers were a semi-pro hockey team based in Marquette, Michigan. They performed at Marquette's famous Palestra. The team's name refers to the abundant iron riches that surround Lake Superior in Michigan's upper peninsula and northeastern Minnesota. The Carlson brothers, who portrayed the three Hanson brothers in Slapshot, also played a season in Marquette in 1973-74. The Iron Rangers had their greatest season in 1968-69, when they led the league with 31 victories in 38 games.
