Saint-Hyacinthe Laser / Le Laser de Saint-Hyacinthe

The Saint-Hyacinthe Laser, or Le Laser de Saint-Hyacinthe, were a major junior hockey team that played in the early 1990s out of Stade L.P. Gaucher in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec. The team was previously known as the Verdun Junior Canadiens before being sold and relocated to Saint-Hyacinthe for the 1989-90 season.

That inaugural 1989-90 season was notable not only for their 35 wins but also for the presence of a 17-year-old goaltender named Martin Brodeur. The future Hall of Famer played 42 games that year and led the team to a first-round playoff victory, which turned out to be the Laser's best playoff run in their seven-year history, despite qualifying for the playoffs six times. During Brodeur's three years with the team, they averaged around 2,000 fans per game and consistently posted about 35 wins per season.

In their final seasons in Saint-Hyacinthe, the team's owners began looking for new opportunities. The franchise changed hands in the summer of 1995, and a year later, the team moved north to Rouyn-Noranda.
