Green Bay Bobcats

The Green Bay Bobcats began as a semi-pro hockey team in 1958, playing at Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena. The Bobcats started in the Mid-America Hockey League for the 1958-59 season, which was a local 5 team circuit with teams from Portage Lake, Calumet, Sault Ste. Marie, and Marquette. They also played some non-league games against the Warroad Lakers, US National team, and others during the season.

The Bobcats would eventually move into the USHL or possibly in the USCHL (predecessor to the USHL). This was back when the USHL was still professional. The USHL would switch to its current junior status in 1979.

The Bobcats had some success in the pre-juniors USHL, winning the league in 1963 and 1972. Their high water mark for wins came in 1974-75 when they won 38 of 48 games. The team was coached for many years by John Mayasich. Mayasich was from Eveleth, MN, and played on the US National Team for many years. He was part of the 1960 championship team at the Squaw Valley Olympics and was inducted to the IIHF Hall of Fame in 1997.
