Thunder Bay Flyers

The Thunder Bay Flyers started play in the USHL for the 1984-85 season. The team had previously been the Thunder Bay Kings, competing in the Thunder Bay Hockey League against senior teams in the area.

In 1986-87, the Flyers posted an impressive 40-7-1 mark in the USHL and were regular season champs. The next season 1987-88, the Flyers would do almost the exact same, going 40-6-2 en route to another regular season title. They would go on to win the playoffs as well, beating the Rochester Mustangs for the playoff title. The Flyers would continue to field solid teams throughout the late 80s and early 90s, as they would have a win percentage over .650 each year through the 1992-93 season. During this time, the Flyers won four regular season title and two playoff titles under coach Dave Siciliano.

Siciliano left the team after the 93 season and the results were never really the same. Starting with the 1995-96 season the Flyers were under .500 for five straight seasons and had a revolving door of coaches. The team would fold after the 1999-00 season. In the wake of this, the Superior International Junior Hockey League was created, and continues today.
