Kootenay Ice

The Kootenay Ice were a long-running major junior team hailing from Kootenay, British Columbia. They were originally the Edmonton Ice in 1996, but after two seasons they relocated to Kootenay in 1998. The team played 21 seasons in Kootenay, making the playoffs in the majority of their time there. Their high water mark was 2011, when they won 46 games and won their league title.

The team had a number of NHL talents come through their locker room, including Mike Comrie, and Max and Sam Reinhart. Max Reinhart led the 2011 championship team with 79 points. That team also featured defenseman Brayden McNabb.

Unfortunately, the last four seasons in Kootenay were not as successful as the team missed the playoffs each time and attendance lagged somewhat. The team was sold and relocated to Winnipeg in 2019.
