The team played in the United Hockey League (UHL) and originated as the Utica Blizzard in 1994. After not being able to agree on a new lease in Utica, the team headed south for Winston-Salem. Winston-Salem had been home to ECHL and SHL franchises in the 1990s and has a long history of hockey dating back to the 1970s and the Winston-Salem Polar Twins.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe IceHawks would only last a couple of years in Winston-Salem, but they were pretty decent on the ice as they won 64 games over the two seasons. Despite the short stint, the team picked up an awesome IceHawk logo during their time in North Carolina.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 1999, the team would relocate again, this time north to Glens Falls, New York. In the summer of 1999 Glens Falls lost their long-time team, Adirondack. Adirondack spent 20 seasons there as an AHL team and the IceHawks franchise jumped at the chance to enter that market. The team would spend five seasons in Glens Falls as the IceHawks, making the playoffs in four of those seasons.
